Message of the German Ambassador

Dear visitors,

welcome to the website of the German Embassy in Lusaka.

Germany is a country rich in history and culture, with great scenery and open-minded inhabitants. It is also a country renowned for its top achievements in science and technology and for the quality of its products with the trademark “made in Germany”.

We invite you to take a look at this website and find out more about our country in the heart of Europe.

This website offers information about many aspects of the good and friendly relations between Germany and Zambia. Development cooperation is a particularly important aspect of our relations. Zambian-German development cooperation encompasses 48 years of commitment of the German government to Zambia. Since 1964, when Zambia gained its independence, the German government has made available 912.4 million Euro of direct bilateral assistance and another 700 million Euro of indirect multilateral contributions to programs of the European Commission, the World Bank, the Africa Development Bank and the United Nations Organisations in Zambia.

The Zambian and the German governments have agreed to concentrate their efforts in development cooperation on the two priority areas "Water and Sanitation" and ”Good Governance“ embracing ”Decentralisation“ and ”Civil Society Participation“.

I hope that you will find useful information on this website about Germany and about our relations with Zambia in politics, economics, development cooperation and culture. Please do not hesitate to contact us for questions, comments and suggestions.

Yours sincerely,

Achim Burkart
