Day of German Unity 2017
Enlarge image On the 3rd of October, the German National Day, Ambassador Achim Burkart has invited to a reception at the Embassy to commemorate the reunification of the then divided Germany.
The border between the Federal Republic of Germany and the German Democratic Republic marked the fault line between two competing ideologies during the Cold War and the reunification is therefore not only an historic day for Germany, but it also stands symbolically for the end of the division of Europe into East and West.
“To this day, people all over the world are moved when they recall how this separation was overcome”, Mr. Burkart highlighted during his speech.
