Foreign and European Policy

Germany and Zambia

The Federal Republic of Germany has maintained friendly relations with the Republic of Zambia since the latter gained independence on 24th October 1964.

German policy on Europe

After centuries of bloody conflict, the integration of states and their interests has defeated nationalism and brought Europe an unparalleled period of peace, prosperity and stability. That is why the completion of European integration is our top political objective.

Foreign policy issues

Peace and freedom are the focal points of German foreign policy. They can only be guaranteed through cooperation in a spirit of trust and a fair balancing of interests with our partners in the United Nations, NATO, G8, OSCE and EU.

Germany supports comprehensive climate protection agreement

Will the international community be able to make concrete steps towards global climate protection? This will be the decisive question when representatives from around 200 states meet from November 28 to December 9, 2011 in Durban, South Africa, at the 17th United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (Cop 17) to negotiate an agreement for the years following 2012. That is when the Kyoto Protocol expires, so far the most important instrument in international climate change policy.

German African Border Project

The Project “Bordermanagement in Africa: Support to the African Union Border Programme” was established in 2008 by the GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Internationale Zusammenarbeit) to support the work of the African Union Border Programme (AUBP). It is financed by the German Federal Foreign Office and is steered and coordinated from Addis Ababa, home of the AU headquarter. The project supports the AUBP in three main areas: border delimitation and demarcation, cross-border cooperation and capacity development.
