Emerine Kabanshi, Minister of Community Development and Social Welfare (© German Embassy) On Thursday, the 19th of October 2017, a German funded new Special Needs Education Resource Centre at University of Zambia (UNZA) has been officially commissioned by the guest of honor, the First Lady of Zambia, Mrs. Esther Lungu, and Ambassador Achim Burkart.
“In line with the Ministry of Education Act of 2011 to embrace inclusive education, the project aims to increase inclusion in and access to quality education for children with disabilities. The vision is to establish the resource center as a center of excellence to act as a model in the provision of special education services in the country”, Ambassador Burkart said during his speech at the ceremony.

The Resource Centre is a cooperation project between the Christoffel Blindenmission (cbm) and UNZA. The project worth 1 million Euro has been funded by Lions Clubs International and Hilfswerk der Deutschen Lions e. V. with 500.000 Euro, which has been matched by another 500.000 Euro from the German television company RTL.
