German Development Organisations ...
... (German Embassy, GTZ, KfW, DED, InWEnt, FES and BGR) in Zambia gathered at Barcley' s Sports Complex on 1st of December 2008. About 300 seconded and local employees including family members were welcomed by the German Ambassador, Dr. Irene Hinrichsen, who encouraged participants to embrace this year's theme of “leadership” in the fight against HIV and AIDS in their daily lifes and their communities. She highlighted the fact that German Development Cooperation aim is to promote an understanding for people living with HIV and to reduce stigmatisation and discrimination.
The event then continued with a large variety of activities among them health checks including voluntary counselling and testing (VCT), health talks, the interactive learning toolkit Join In Circuit (JIC), drama and dance performances as well as peer-education and various fun activities for children.
These activities were facilitated by Kara Conselling, Latkins, Breakthrough Sports Academy and TAFOD Theatre Group.
German Embassy supports flood affected schools
In response to the floods which have affected many parts of the country this year, the German Embassy has provided several schools in Siavonga District with targeted support amounting to 100.000 Euros (about 523,000,000 ZMK).
From end of February until the end of September two projects have been funded which have been implemented by the NGO Chreso Ministries in close collaboration with local authorities. The projects have addressed immediate needs in terms of rehabilitating sanitation facilities, providing mosquito nets, chlorine and medicines (through the NGO' s mobile clinic) as well as running a school feeding programme to alleviate the effects of the food deficit in that area.
Overall more than 3,500 pupils and their family members have benefited from the support.
Ten more black rhinos for the "North Luangwa National Park"
Zambia has received ten more black rhinos (diceros bicornis minor) from South African National Parks. The animals were presented to the Zambian Minister for Tourism, Environment and Natural Resources, Hon Kabinga J Pande, and the Director-General of the Zambia Wildlife Authority, Dr Lewis Saiwana, on 17 June 2006 in North Luangwa National Park.

Livingstone-Sesheke Road and Katima Mulilo bridge
In order to foster regional cooperation Germany subsidised the Walvis Bay-Ndola-Corridor by building the Livingstone-Sesheke Road and the Zambezi bridge at Katima Mulilo in Zambia for 35 Mio. Euro and, by funding the rehabilitation of the Trans-Caprivi-Highway and the modernisation of Walvis Bay Harbour (Namibia) contributed to - not only improving cooperation between Zambia and Namiba - but the whole region.

Pegasos Quartet from Germany performed in Lusaka
The Pegasos Quartet was visiting Zambia in October and performed two concerts in Lusaka:
A dinner concert at the Alliance Francaise on Thursday the 2nd October 2008 and a concert at the Chapel in the University of Zambia on the Great East Road on Saturday 4th October 2008

Small Scale Project: Mano Community School
On 15 March 2006 an extension of the Mano Community School at North Luangwa National Park in Mpika District was officially handed over by the German Ambassador to Zambia, Dr. Irene Hinrichsen and inaugrated within the framework of the Small Scale Projects of the German Embassy.

Private donation of medical text books to UTH
A donation of medical text books, arranged for by Prof. Dr. Bernhard Neuhaus of the University of Muenster and his wife Dr Barbara Neuhaus was presented by the Embassy to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) in Lusaka on 10 March 2006.
